They are designed for multi-purpose so can be used interchangeably to hold, carry and display shot glasses or used in the evening with tealight candles to add great atmosphere. 

The width of the holders varies (every barrel lath is different) narrowest is about 65mm, widest is about 70mm, depth (thickness) is about 22mm.
